Episode 86: Duck Soup Reheated (featuring The Marx Brothers Council)
If you caught our recent listener commentary episodes devoted to The Cocoanuts, Animal Crackers, Monkey Business, and Horse Feathers, you’re probably not shocked to hear that our latest such episode is devoted to Duck Soup, which most fans agree was released in 1933. These re-dives have been an interesting experience, and as with the four previous examples, the thoughtful insights of our listeners prompted discussions of this very familiar film from new and intriguing angles.
I don’t want to give away any surprises, but it’s a reasonably safe bet that our next listener commentary episode (a couple of months down the line) will concern A Night at the Opera, so put it on your rewatch list for the holidays.
For another serving of Duck Soup, you can listen to our original deep dive, “You’ll Duck Soup the Rest of Your Life” — that’s episode 13, from March of 2019.
Even though this show is audio only, we insist on dramatic lighting

Official description: “Listeners weigh in with their takes on the 1933 classic. We dive into the big questions: Is the film genuine satire or just anarchy in disguise? Which supporting characters truly ‘deserve’ the wrath of the Marxes? And why is there not even incidental sound in the famed mirror scene? Join us as we spin our wheels trying to find logic in the brothers’ most illogical film.”
Note for early birds: When a new episode is released, it might not appear at all of the locations below right away. If you visit your favorite podcast provider and the previous episode is still the most recent one you see there, be patient! And above all, don't worry.
