We told you were doing the Horse Feathers listener commentary episode in June, but we didn’t do it in June. Then we told you we were going to do the Horse Feathers listener commentary episode in July, and here we are with the Horse Feathers listener commentary episode, in July. So, from this little episode you can conclude that approximately 50% of what we tell you is true.
It is also true, he said, shaking the last few crumbs from an empty jar of segues, that MBCP listeners had more to say about Horse Feathers than we could include in an episode, but the always inventive, always resourceful, rarely hysterical Bob Gassel has a plan for that, as he will explain in this episode.
Certainly, Horse Feathers is an endlessly discussable film, as we’re all determined to demonstrate. It seems to appear near the top of most fans’ lists (though only occasionally at the very top). Although it belongs to the Hollywood Paramount period, we can say that it’s a reversion to precedents established in Animal Crackers, after the formal experimentation of Monkey Business. We can say that — I don’t know why we would, but nobody’s going to stop us. We can say it several times if we want to.
