Episode 56: Question Marx

Episode 56: Question Marx

This is not the first Q&A episode of The Marx Brothers Council Podcast — that distinction belongs to Episode 8: Gentlemen, Question Mark, which was released way back in 2018, before any of us were born. This is also not the second Q&A episode of The Marx Brothers Council Podcast — that would be Episode 23: Monkey Distance, which was released in 2020, the most normal year ever. No, friends — this is the third Q&A episode of The Marx Brothers Council Podcast, and as such, it contains Qs and As ever so slightly different from the ones you heard in 2018 and 2020.

This month’s bonus segment is a long-planned discussion of Matthew’s landmark essay “The Groucho Marx Theory of Creativity,” which appears in his 2016 book That’s Me, Groucho! You can hear the bonus segment right now at the happiest place in the world, our Patreon page.

Official description: “Once again we dip into the mailbag for questions and comments from our loyal listeners. Bob joins us to serve as quizmaster, as we discuss subjects such as post-Duck Soup Freedonia/Sylvania relations, Marx pets, Matthew’s and Noah’s book sale numbers, and Groucho’s connection to the Chicago 7 trial. Of course, we can’t ignore the um, er…well, let’s just say the recently discovered Horse Feathers stills. Talk about pre-code!”

Note for early birds:  When a new episode is released, it might not appear at all of the locations below right away. If you visit your favorite podcast provider and the previous episode is still the most recent one you see there, be patient! And above all, don't worry.

  • Here’s the Lee Weiner interview Arnie Bernstein shared with us, which includes the detail about Groucho being asked to testify as an expert witness in the Chicago 7 trial.
